Description:
Abstract:
The GLBA_ICE coverage is a representation of past and present
glaciation within the boundaries of Glacier Bay National Park
and Preserve. It depicts the more significant movements of
ice throughout various stages of time since the maximum extent
of the neo-glacial ("Little Ice Age") advance.
Purpose:
The purpose of this coverage was to analyze the historic movement
of ice and to identify the present regions of glaciation in
Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve through the compilation
and synthesis of various data sources/formats.
Supplemental_Information:
Procedures_Used:
Data for this coverage were collected from varying sources
including records from ecological studies and trimline surveys,
historic maps and archived information, USGS topographic maps,
nautical charts, and TM satellite images. Polygon shapefiles
weredigitized on to various Park GIS theme layers (including
elevation grids/contours, Park boundary lines, NOAA coastline,
scanned topographic maps and satellite imagery) using ArcView 3.0 and
converted to ARCINFO NT 7.1.1 coverages. Polygon and Region
topology was built, attribute information added, and citations
compiled in dbase format.
